Hi Everybody and welcome to July, with weather that is so bloody hot that I can almost smell my pastey British skin burning!

Thanks to all of you who sent me emails with pictures of your men for the KTLA Morning News tomorrow.  I do not for one moment believe that all of these men were truly “willing” to get a in-depth manscaping on live tv.  Some of them looked downright horrified in the pictures. I can only imagine what some of you promised them if they volunteered!  We do in fact have a splendid candidate for tomorrow’s show.  He is definitely not lacking in the hair department, and I look forward to defurring him.  Should make for fun segments running throughout the KTLA morning news from 6:00am - 10:00am.  KTLA is channel Five.

1.    The first topic I’m thrilled to announce is Queen Bee’s NEW REWARDS PROGRAM, which we introduced today.

You will automatically be enrolled on your next visit or when a new client gives you credit for referring them, whichever comes first.

You can currently earn points two ways:

a)    Referring new clients to Queen Bee

When you refer a new client you will receive 1 Queen Bee Referral Point once the new client comes in for services. For every 3 referral points you earn, you can redeem your reward - 30% off of any service, excluding yoga, pilates, lashes and massage.

Make sure you let the girls at the front KNOW who you have referred for services and make sure your referrals mention you when they book their first appointment so we can be sure you get the credit!  It’s amazing how quickly you will earn the rewards.  This program will only apply to NEW referrals now that the rewards program is in place.

b)    Spending Rewards

For every dollar you spend in the shop on products or services (excluding yoga, pilates, lashes and massage), you will receive 100 Queen Bee Spending Rewards Points.  Once you have earned 25,000 points ($250 in spending), you can choose to redeem your points in one of three ways:

A. $20 off of a service (excluding pilates, yoga, lashes and massage)
B. 15% off of a product, where purchase price is less than $100.00
C. 10% off of a product, where purchase price is greater than $100.00

Total points earned for referrals and spending will print at the bottom of your receipt.  You won’t need a rewards card, as we track everything for you in our system automatically.

3.    MASSAGE

The Los Angeles Department of Health has FINALLY approved us for massage.  Going through the permitting process for massage has been a long, drawn out experience, and believe it or not, the City of Culver City, now has to have a “Committee Meeting” in late July to actually grant the license for us to perform this service.  It has been very frustrating for me, especially since the one thing they are worried about more than anything is “Happy Endings”.  I think most of you know by now that “Happy” is not what you usually are at the shop during a wax session!!!  I’ll keep you posted, but we’re finally getting close!!

4.    IN-HOME PRIVATE SERVICES

We have been doing a lot of private services as of late, especially at local businesses, mums groups and private residences.  At the moment, we are able to bring these services to private locations:

A lot of you love coming in on Sundays, which is great.  And I’m thrilled that you are loving my Apprentice Danika.  I met with another esthetician today, who has been in the field for over 20 years.  She may come on board part-time for Sundays, as Danika is booking up fast on Sundays.  I liked her instantly and she’s waxing me this Sunday, so I’ll let you know how that goes, and if she’s great, she’s on board with us!

For those of you who wanted the Nougat sparkly spray from London, it’s in.  But I won’t order more because Customs is a NIGHTMARE!!!!

Not much else to report.  Other than IT’S BLOODY HOT OUT THERE, so do wear your sunscreen, drinks tons of tea and water and exfoliate gently, regularly!  Do start to enjoy the garden at Queen Bee.  It’s so beautiful out there right now, and if you come early, you can put your feet up with a gossipy mag and cuppa tea before your appointment!

Also, remember that if you have a complaint or problem EVER at Queen Bee, I can’t do anything about it unless you open your gobs and tell me personally!  I am a tough cookie and it’s important that I get honest feedback, whether good or bad.

RE:  May 2009 Updates!!!

Happy May!!!

This particular monthly newsletter has had me slightly frazzled as there is so much to talk about.  I have gone through many a bottle of Two Buck Chuck contemplating how to start it, so I will commence proceedings by giving you the skinny as follows:

1.    SUNDAYS!!!         In my last newsletter I asked what you improvements you wanted to see, and a lot of you told me “Sunday Hours”.  None of my girls at the shop want to work Sundays, because they are all at Church doing very righteous acts………….. like asking God to forgive them for the previous nights Tequila indulgence etc.  After a search of many a great esthetician we are thrilled to invite Danika da Matta into the Hive.  First and foremost, she is BRAZILIAN!!!   Could we ask for more???!!!  Secondly, she is obsessed with waxing, and after several rounds with her, I can confirm that she does indeed have “the touch”.   Danika starts with us next Sunday the 17th from 2pm through 6pm and she will be in Monday 11am - 4pm.  WE ARE OFFERING 50% OFF OF SERVICES WITH HER FOR THOSE DAYS, SO I NEED PEOPLE!!!  IF YOU WANT A HEAVILY DISCOUNTED WAX, PLEASE CONTACT JENN ASAP, AS THERE WILL BE LIMITED SPACE.  THIS IS FOR ALL WAXING SERVICES!!!

2.    MAGS.  We are honored to be included in the May 2009 Edition of Allure Magazine.  They sent a sneaky little spy in to check out our skills.  Fortunately that day, we were a dab hand with the wax and received two thumbs up.  It’s refreshing to see magazines like Allure and “C” physically send journalists in, instead of hitting Google.

3.    VACATION!! (a word not used enough)  Even though a lot of you tell me that I am just not entitled to one, I’ve decided to rebel.  Looks like end of May into early June I will be going home to surprise my mum for her 60th birthday.   You can’t turn me down with that request right? Anybody who has scheduled with me within those days, do not fear, I will make sure you get taken care of before I leave.  For the future, in the event I have to go home for more than a week or so, please please rest assured that the girls at Queen Bee are all trained.  If they can’t wax me, they can’t wax anybody.  In fact, there are many of you out there who prefer the other girls to me.  That I take as a compliment.   BTW:  Does anybody want to trade tons of my American Miles for Virgin or Brit. Airways?

4.    MASSAGE.  By June 1st we will have two (2) amazing massage technicians on hand to ease your aches and pains.  We will be offering all sorts of treatments…… without of course any naughtiness!   I’ll be posting a list of treatments, prices etc. onto the website soon.  BTW, do you know we Twitter now?  I update it from time to time.  I also post things on the Queen Bee Blog.
Our technicians DO offer in house services.  This can be done as a individual or as a couple. Give Jenn or Michelle a call at the desk for information.

5.    REWARDS PROGRAM    This should be initiated by May 18th.  We are working with our software peeps and will get back to you soon on that.

6.    MAT PILATES BOOT CAMP STARTS!!!     The much anticipated Pilates Book Camp starts next week - Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8pm.  This is for clients who have already been involved with a Pilates exercise in some way.  Mat Pilates has become extremely popular and we are extending our hours. The two (2) week $40 unlimited is still running, and will through the end of May.  It’s pretty inspiring to see so many of you kicking butt with Brandi and Irene!  I’ve already started to see a difference in a lot of you.  Well done!!!  (Shame I can’t get my sorry bottom in there with you!!!)

7.    COMING SOON.  “THE BEE SCENE”   I’ve been talking with a lot of you about having a Queen Bee social networking site.  Designed ONLY for Queen Bee clients and staff.  I will be working with some techie people to get this up and running.  I think it would be beneficial for us to all be able to assist each other.  i.e.  doctor referrals, job postings, events., etc.  I’ve even been talking with a client about getting a really classy dating system up and running.  There is so much we can do.  I even want to start talking about a group “Queen Bee Body Challenge”, but that’s later down the road.  I mean, all that talk about “Bikini Boot Camp”…. what better place to do that than at an actual Bikini Wax Spa!!!  More soon on that………….

8.    GENERAL WHINGING    Please don’t block our loo!!!  Be a folder, not a wadder!  Our poor lav has been backed up several times lately.  The plumbing is old and cranky, so be nice to it.  If you throw something down there that it doesn’t like, don’t be surprised if it spits it right back at you!!!  (Like the Blackberry Phone that a delightful client dropped and flushed last week.  God Bless Blackberry.  After several hours in the pipes, it still worked!
Being late for appointments. Please please be on time for appointments.  I have now gotten to the point where I will reschedule you if you are more than 10 minutes late.  Thanks to all of you who call us ahead when you are going to be late.  We appreciate that immensely.

SERVICES

LASH EXTENSIONS have finally arrived.  We are so happy to welcome Angelica Tapia to Queen Bee on a full time basis.  The Queen Bee website is being updated right now so that you can check out who she is and what she does.  We do have all information about the lashes, in case the site is not updated yet, so let us know if you want to see it.  Prices.  SPECIAL reg. $149 now $120 for full set.  “Cats Eye” lashes - which are lashes applied to the outer edges are $70.  Expect to be in the chair an hour or two for services.

MAKEUP
Bridal  and event makeup is available full time with Shannon Maguire.  Shannon did my makeup for the May 2009 edition of Allure and I think she did a great job.  She even made my big ol’ schnoz look smaller!!!

MAT PILATES is up and running!!!  Brandi and Irene are ready to kick some serious tush.  Class schedules are online.  They have put together some amazing specials, and a Pilates Boot Camp.  The classes are small in size, this way, they can focus on you individually to make sure you are doing it right.  Mat Pilates prices are $15 per class, but there is also a two week unlimited class for $40. You can get a FREE class by referring a friend. Again, check out the website for all information. Tomorrow night is the first evening class.  Once the weather gets nicer, we can hold the classes outside in the garden.

YOGA.  Ally, Chrissy and Amy are also extending their hours and classes.  There is a $30 two week unlimited yoga and a free refer a friend special.  Check out website for more info. (you will be able to book yoga online in the next week)

MANI/PEDIS - HAIR.  Yve Marie Antista is now running the hair and nail department full time, so there are many more days and evenings you can book with her.  The hair room is now also equipped for color.  Prices are online.  Sundays are also available by appointment.

FACIALS - Back in the day, when I was a “Valley Girl” I offered my clients bikini and bottom facials. Yes, I really did.  This was more for clients who suffer from ingrowns and those annoying red pimples you see on yer bum.  It’s almost like an acne facial, but for down below (with NO massage!!!).   Anybody who is interested in this, please email Sharon at “classes@queenbeewaxing.com”.   Sharon will also be demonstrating how you can very simply keep your bikini line free and clear of lumps and bumps.
Sharon and I are also looking at some more indepth peels for the face.  We have found a line that we really like, so anybody who needs a peel before the summer, let Sharon know, as these are now being added to facials.

WAXING
This is where I need your feedback.  Jenn has mentioned that she receives a few complaints every week about people not be able to get in.  I am wondering if we should extend our hours and days to accommodate, at least for the summer?   My first reaction is to extend Ashley’s hours, which I will do.  Also, I am training Sharon on Brazilians, so I would love to hear from anybody who would like to get a wax for free as part of her training.  We are also throwing around the idea of opening up later on Friday evenings, and possibly Sundays.  What do you think?
The other thing I always point out to you is, please, when you leave your appointment make your next one.  It will save a lot of hassle. Also, believe it not, the Cancellation List really does work!
AWARDS PROGRAM.  I am very aware that a lot of you refer your friends and family and that a lot of you have been regular and loyal clients at Queen Bee.  We are working on a Rewards Program that will start to monitor when you visit, and after a certain amount of visits, reward you with a discounted or free service.  Please let us know when you refer people, as we don’t always know, and we would like to be able to show you how grateful we are.
I would also like to hear from any of you who have lost your jobs recently, or who just can’t afford to wax anymore.  There are programs that we run at Queen Bee to help you out.

ECZEMA.  Many of you have complained about eczema and a fabulous client just found an apparent miracle cream.  She emails…….

NOTE: Arriving late for appointments - Sometimes it’s unavoidable to be late for an appointment.  We all know that Los Angeles traffic is totally bi-polar.  Sometimes it’s great, sometimes it’s lousy and completely UNPREDICTABLE!  We really appreciate when you call to tell us that you are running late.  But please be aware, if you are too late, your appointment may have to be rescheduled, or you will lose some of the services. There are times when we ask you to sit and wait, but other times, it’s just too busy.  Having said all this, there are a number of people who routinely stroll in 20-30 minutes late, with no phone call before,  and expect to be seen right away.   This just ruins it for that person who was on the cancellation list, or the person who is next behind this particular client.  We have always acted fairly at the shop, and we just ask those people who think it’s fashionable to be very late, that you appreciate that we have a professional business to run.

NEW CLASSES -

Intro to Yoga
This is a 45 minute class which will give you an all round understanding to what Yoga is all about. This class is perfect for beginners who are slightly afraid of taking a Yoga class and would like to know more. Or you could be a yoga practitioner who would like to learn more about Yoga! This class is paid on donation basis and on sunny days will be held in the glorious Queen Bee garden.

Power Yoga.
Power yoga is a vigorous, fitness-based approach to vinyasa-style yoga. Power yoga does not follow a set series of poses and emphasizes on strength, flexibility and the flowing with the breath. A Great Workout!

Due to its high demand, Beginners Ashtanga Yoga will be on Monday evenings as well as Wednesday evenings.

There will be a silent auction held at the Queen Bee Spa, Friday, February 27th from 5:00-7:30 to raise money for long-time Sony employee Kristen Townsend/Alioto.  Here is a synopsis of what happened on her wedding night, by Auction organizer Heidi Thompson:

“The couple jumped into the swimming pool to celebrate their nuptials and the groom hit his head on the bottom of the pool breaking his neck.  In the weeks since, his bride Kristen has not left his side as he has undergone surgery and grueling rehabilitation.  He is determined to walk again although he doesn’t yet have use of his legs or hands.  However their newlywed spirits are strong!  In anticipation of her new husband’s return home on March 5, Kristen is quickly planning and organizing a major renovation to make their new home wheelchair-friendly.  They must build a ramp, widen doorways, and convert a bedroom into a large bathroom.  So far, all of the labor has been donated by generous friends and family.  However the materials are estimated to cost about $25,000. We have organized a silent auction to be held at the end of February adjacent to the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City, where the bride works.  We would like to ask for your donation.”

Hi ladies!

 

Firstly, Thank you all so much for your support this past month at Queen Bee Yoga. Amy, Chrissie and myself hope you have enjoyed the classes you’ve experienced so far and will continue to come to many more.

 

Our Schedule at Queen Bee Yoga is very versatile. We have classes from all levels; beginners, intermediate and advanced. All Vinyasa classes taught by Amy and Chrissie are for all levels, both teachers will definitely make you work your body and relax your mind! Amy will sadly be no longer teaching Tuesday and Thursday lunch Yoga, however Chrissie will be teaching a new Vinyasa class Thursday evening at 8-9pm!! So book on in!!!

 

The Ashtanga classes are categorized into beginners, intermediate and advanced. If you are a novice to Ashtanga I certainly suggest coming to a beginners class, and when you feel ready you will be able to progress onto the next level. Please feel free to try out all 3 teachers at Queen Bee Yoga to see which teacher’s style suits you. After all, Yoga is about you!!

 

There are some exciting additions to the schedule.   Starting from February Chrissie, Amy and myself are all offering Private 1-2-1 Yoga sessions so that you can all learn more about your body and how to embrace yoga on a more personal level.

3 sessions - $195 ($65 a session)

 

5 sessions - $300 ($60 a session)

 

10 sessions - $500 ($50 a session)

The next EXCITING NEWS is that for February we are offering a REFERAL program. All you have to do is bring a friend and you receive One free class!! Please remember when booking in for a class to also book your friend in too for spatial reasons. We hope that this will be a great program to bring more people into Queen Bee and to make the Yoga Room have more of a  sense of  community.

This week through next Tuesday, Hope from the Kyle Mathis Salon is offering $35 shampoo, cut and blowouts.  Book online and request this special in the comments box.

For Valentines week 9th-14th, Hope is offering shampoo, cut and blowout WITH makeup application for $70.  Total time needed is 1 hour and 45 minutes.

I think our Pilates prices are amazing.  This is for one-on-one, on Gratz equipment in a private room.  We’ll get mat pilates on the schedule soon, and in the spring, we’ll be able to do this in the QB garden.

Our revised menu is up online on the QB website (http://www.QueenBeeWaxing.com).  Also coming pretty soon is a new QB networking tool that will allow you to advertise yourselves, or look up services that other QB family members offer.  Sort of a QB Face Book for us only.  Also, I for one will extend my hours out for Valentines week, and I will check with the girls to see if they can do the same.

Merry Merry Christmas and a Spankingly Fantastic Holiday Season Greeting to you all, whatever you are celebrating!

It’s been a long time coming, but I can now happily and merrily announce that the new QB Spa and Salon is open, functioning and ready to go. Here are the services that have commenced as of today that you can now all enjoy:

PILATES:

Yes!!! It is here!! I think I am the most excited about this particular room and service. I took Pilates a few months ago and loved it. It’s the only thing that began to kick the baby fat I have been carrying around for the past 4 years - so really, technically, it would be “toddler fat” or in fact “little person fat” - really, it’s been that long! Staying true to our tradition of offering affordable services, having researched what other places are offering, we are breaking down the sessions as such:

1. Package of 10 @ $60 per session

2. Individual session $70

If you want to pop in to see the room, please do so. It’s completely private, with only one Gratz Reformer and other equipment needed to mold your bodies into shape. Our instructors are fantastic - Brandi and Irene. Any questions you have, please direct them to pilates@queenbeewaxing.com. Mat Pilates will also be on the menu in the new year. With the garden ready to go, we just need some warm weather to be able to use the lawn.

HAIR:

The private stylist room will open tomorrow for cuts and blowouts only. We’ve set the schedule up to accommodate lunch time and evening hours. I am so honored to be able to announce that Kyle Mathis (my own stylist, and many of yours as well) and a select number of his staff will be providing services out of this private room as follows:

Tuesdays 12:00pm-7:00pm. This day is reserved for The Master himself. All other days are handled by the amazing staff from Kyle Mathis Salon in Santa Monica as follows:

Wednesdays 12:00pm-9pm

Thursdays 12:00pm - 9:00pm Blowouts Only! Curtis, hands down, gives the best head massage on the planet.

Fridays 11am-7pm

(Saturdays - we are working on)

Cuts are $75 and blow outs are $50. And yes, your cut includes blowout and style afterward. Color is performed at The Kyle Mathis salon in Santa Monica, where he has kindly offered a 20% discount to all Queen Bee clients.

YOGA:

We are offering group classes of up to 6 people for Ashtanga Yoga and Vinyasa (also known as “Flow”). Please direct all yoga questions to yoga@queenbeewaxing.com for information on schedule and booking. Heading the Ashtanga Yoga department is a little “Brit” of a star Ally Nicholls and we are offering:

60 Minutes Ashtanga for Beginners $12

90 Minutes Ashtanga $18

120 Minutes Ashtanga $20

She will be offering a very early morning class, an evening class, and a weekend class - all based on demand.

Vinyasa is one hour and once we know demand for this, we will add it to the schedule.

MASSAGE:

Just waiting for the go ahead from the City of Culver City. Apparently, until they have proved that there are no “happy endings” and naughtiness going on in the massage room, we can’t put this service on the menu yet. Having a Full Monty is as close to a “Happy Ending” as you all are going to get at Queen Bee.
