A Quickie (Oooooer Vicar!!!)

1. Queen Bee Open House and Upward Bound Event Was a huge success!! Thank you to all of those who came out and supported a bloody good cause.  Check out the pictures at:

I’m very happy to say that I have converted many of you to my beverage of choice “Pimms #1″.  I am sure we will be enjoying more of that in the Queen Bee garden this summer.  Thank you to Rock Sake, Chris Brugler Catering and Chef Akasha for donating their time and amazing creations.  Anybody who would like their contact information for catered parties of any kind, give Jenn a call at the front.  desk.  Thank you also to Wendi and Benita at Moondance Events, who helped me from going completely bonkers before the big night.

2. Apprentice.  Free Wax Training Week! I have a new apprentice.  Anna Tidball will be joining the busy hive of worker bees this week and of course I will be offering the usual free waxes as part of her training.  Monday through Friday - morning, afternoon and evening hours.  The only waxing service I will not be offering with Anna at this time are Brazilians and Brows (until I have trained her more).  Everything else waxing is offered.  Please contact Jenn at the deskappointments@QueenBeeWaxingSalonSpa.com if you would like to donate a body part. Look out for Brazilian Waxes and Brows next month.

3. April -  Many of you will be very happy to know that April has decided to keep ALL waxing services except brows on her schedule and not just Brazilian waxes.

4. The CPA next door is upset because his two spots are sometimes being used by QB customers.  His signs are not very visible, and he is aware of this, so is getting new ones put up. Just wanted to let you know that if you park there, you may end up with a very large calculator impaled in your head.

5. The Queen Bee Spa and both gardens are now officially open for private parties - bridal, baby shower, sorority etc.  Just let us know what your needs are, and we can now make them happen. ALSO, we will be extending our hours this spring and summer to accommodate those last minute “Oh My God I have to get into a hot tub” moments.  Look out for longer Fridays and Saturdays.  We are also now able to bring any spa services to your door, including airbrush tanning.

This month’s newsletter is slightly late, but there is a lot to talk about! Firstly, happy new year!! I feel it in my bones, that for *everybody* it will be a much better than last year (or I shall truly become one with the vine and change my name to The Pinot Queen).

1. VALENTINES DAY -  For those of you who have not spent early February with us, just know that it is one of our most insanely busy times.  We’ve extended our hours, and of course you all know we are now open 7 days a week from 9:30am thru 10:00pm where needed.  The girls wanted me to let you know that even if you don’t see a time on the schedule that works, just ask, as most of the time they can accommodate you. We got together and locked down some amazing, and discounted packages for Valentines Day (week before and after) and you can download a PDF of the flyer here [http://tinyurl.com/QBvalentine10], there is also a printed version of the flyer at the shop.

2. QUEEN BEE ROYAL BASH 2010! SILENT AUCTION  - benefiting Fire and Police Depts. Speaking of Valentines Day, it is about BLOODY time I opened up the shop for a client bash.  I keep talking the talk, but have never gotten around to opening up the shop for an evening of fun and frolicking!  Therefore my friends, please make a note in your calendars that Friday, February 12th from 6:00pm through 10:00pm, the doors will be open at Queen Bee for an official “Open House”.   Here is the skinny on what the evening shall entail:

RSVP ONLY:  Because of limited space this will be an RSVP invite only, and I have to close at 300 people.  We will be sending out an official online invitation this week.

FUN: There will be an official “Pimms Bar” where we will be serving my favorite British bevvie “Pimms #1″ - done proper! None of this cucumber, lavender-laced monkey business that you lot are used to over here.  We will also be serving other delicacies and my favorite Chef, Akasha Richmond [http://tinyurl.com/ChefAkasha], will be sending down some naughty nibbles for us to gobble up!!!

AND?: Free services galore!!  The manicure pedicure department will be on hand to glitz up your nails. Liz will be spray tanning. Marcia will be massaging. Sharon and Dawn will be smothering you in skincare products, taming brows - and I will be demonstrating how to drink your Pimms in a very fashionable and ladylike way.  Tons of giveaways too.  Epicuren have sent us a lot of really amazing samples that will be coming your way that evening.

SILENT AUCTION: Our Police and Fire Departments are massively underfunded.  So I wanted to have a Silent Auction to help make an impact - even if it’s a small one. Some of you have emailed me in the past to offer items for a Silent Auction, and I would ask that you call or email Jenn with anything you can provide (send toappointments@queenbeewaxing.com).  We certainly make sure we help you all out when you email us for donations for schools and other events you all may have, and we are so happy to do so.   Apparently, the police and fire departments may provide a dashing officer or two to help with the event.  I was also toying with the idea of having a $1 at the door donation for Haiti.

3. DR. YOUSEFF IS BACK AT QUEEN BEE FEB 12th!! My favorite doctor is coming back to QB per many of your requests.  He’s bringing more staff and more machines this time - including Tattoo Removal!!!  He’ll be in all day on Feb 12th from 9:30am through 8pm (and he’ll be there are the party).

5. SERVICES  -  Here’s an update on what we have full time at the shop now:

WAXING - All

MANI/PEDIS - The private room is fully operational now and can accommodate side-by-side and groups.

FACIALS - New facial room is up and running.  We are now using only Epicuren products and the girls are fully trained and licensed for the 3-layer peel.

CUSTOM Airbrush Tanning - Work has finished on the private airbrush tan room, which is now located in the spa.

EYEBROW Area - The eyebrow bar is now located in the spa and is headed up by Dawn.

MAKEUP- Courtney is back at Queen Bee (joy) and can now be booked for bridal, prom, etc., makeup and of course waxing.

MASSAGE -  Marcia can be called to book massage!  More about Marcia and our massage menu will be posted on the website soon.

ALSO! Very exciting.  We just had our first Spa Party (”Spa-tee”) at the shop, where we used the end area of the spa.  You can now throw your own girls night, bridal shower, mum’s spa party, etc. We can provide all spa services to anybody, ages from 8 to 100!!!!

QUESTION -  If there is enough interest in acrylic nails, I do have somebody who can come in by appointment only.  Also, some of you like gel nails.  If there is enough interest, I will bring those in too. Please let me know.  Also, if you have any suggestions of things you would like to see at Queen Bee, shoot me an email.  I love getting your comments, whether happy or grumbly!

b) Just a reminder, so we don’t have to spend time chasing you.  When you get the “Reminder” email about your appointments, it would really help us if you “CLICK” on the link to confirm your appointment.  That updates our calendar automatically with your confirmation and frees us up from calling and emailing you to confirm.  Thanks.

Although I do like to chatter with you all personally, I really am not one to clutter up your inboxes with incessant updates and emails.  However, I really do have to send this one out, as it affects those of you who book with Danika.  It is with a very sad and sort of sulky face, that I have to tell you she is moving far from our little nest.  Her husband has been accepted at UC Berkeley and of course, he has accepted (selfish bugger!!!!!).  Danika’s last day will be October 31st.  She’ll extend her hours out before then, so if you would like to come in and see her soon, please email the girls at the front desk.

Courtney Corvan (who is trained up) will take over on Sundays and will now work Monday evenings also.  Which I think will be great for a lot of you who work close by.

I’ll get October over with, so I don’t have to send another at the end of the month.  And it’ll be quick.  I’m told the wine I just opened only needs 5 minutes of breathe before I inhale it, so here goes:

1.    AT LONG BLOODY LAST, we have our Saturday manicurist!  It really took that long to find somebody great.  So now we have Connie Flagg (who is still at Four Seasons when she’s not at Queen Bee), and Cameron Bailey.  Both will be able to work side-by-side, but more importantly, we now have two people so the manicure chair will be open EVERY day.  The menu will change up dramatically, so that now you can actually get a lunchtime mani/pedi - 50 minutes.  The “Perfect Quickie” is everything you need, sans the hot towels and massage.  That you will still get in the 80 minute “Spa-ahhh” mani/pedi.

SPECIAL    $38 The Perfect Quickie (Reg $45) Until October 25th.  (Saturdays will always be the busiest day for this, so let the girls know asap if you want this month)

Check the QB website http://www.QueenBeeWaxing.com as we’ve changed it up a bit.  Also, what was the “Hair Room” in the spa is being transformed into a private nail room - French Doors, tv/dvd player on the wall, Audrey Hepburn movies etc. etc.  Should be a nice place to put your feet up.

The Facial Room has moved location and is being given a gorgeous face lift! Dawn and Sharon are planning on bringing in the Epicuren line, which a lot of you have requested.  We’re still testing products.  Again, facials are now available 7 days a week - early mornings, all day and up to 10pm.

Phew! It took us a while to find the perfect hand and nail team, but we are so excited to announce that we will have mani pedis 7 days a week - morning, noon and night!!

September??!!!!  Are you serious?  It’s almost the end of September, and where the dickens did this year go!!!!!?  The most I remember is how many bottles of Pino I went through!!!

Welcome Dawnrenee Palomino!  Dawn is joining Sharon in our expanding skincare department and is our new Sunday and Monday facialist for day and evening appointments.  Dawn brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table, having worked for many years at a very reputable day spa in the South Bay. To celebrate Dawn’s arrival, all one hour facials on Sundays only, from now through October 25th will be $65 (reg $75)

Speaking of facials, Sharon and I have been hunting for a great peel for the fall to get rid of dead skin and excess sunscreen build up.  We found an amazing pumpkin peel that works wonders on the face, hands etc.  Our new peel for winter is:

Welcome Courtney Corvan Alovis!    Courtney will be joining us in the waxing and makeup department.  I’ve known Courtney for a while and her reputation is outstanding.  She has been in the biz for some time, and was a facialist and waxer at Kate Somerville in West Hollywood.  Since I am going to be training Courtney the Queen Bee waxy way, I am offering the following training specials next week - Thursday and Friday 10:00am-1:30pm.  Call Jenn at the shop asap if you want to get in on these specials. I am chuffed to bits that The Queen of Airbrush Tanning has joined Queen Bee.  Liz Pino of UVA Sun started her vocational life spraying cars!!!!  Now she’s doing excellent bodywork on us all.  Her spray tans grace the covers of many top magazines, and she is much in demand.  We are using UVA Sun products which are amazing, and believe me, we test drove them all.  Liz continues to work at UVA Sun, but now also mans our spray tan department on a regular basis.

4.  FUNDRAISER FOR FIRE DEPT

I’ve been thinking for some time that we need to have a charitable event at Queen Bee.  Of course this would be in conjunction with some sort of party with alcohol and really scrumptious bites involved.  So, I’m putting it out there now, that the Friday before Halloween between about 5:00pm and 10:00pm I am planning to have a shindig at the shop (and perhaps involve some local restaurants).  I’ll send more information soon.  100% of the proceeds will go to the Culver City Fire Department.  We may hold a silent auction perhaps, and I will also be asking some men in uniform to come help us out (gotta match?).  All waxes and services will be discounted.

Greetings from my kitchen, where I sit watching a beautiful Pinot Noir disappear right before my eyes.  Truly amazing.  Truly delicious.

Let’s get going on some scoop

DOCTOR REFERRAL

Many have asked who we now refer to for cosmetic procedures, whether injectibles or surgeries.  I was referred by several clients to a rather dashing Plastic Surgeon in Santa Monica called Dr. Mark Youssef.  After several calls and a great meeting, he has agreed to be our man of choice.  I will say, after meeting him, I did not expect him to be so humble and genuine.  There was nothing “Nip/Tuck” about him.  Just warm and pleasant with twinkly eyes and a lovely set of dimples.  Dare we ask for more?

I asked Dr. Youssef if he would be willing to offer QB clients discounts on his services and to now and again pop over to the shop to perform services.  After checking us out a bit more, he has agreed to do so, and without further ado, here are the details of an August bash:

Time: 3:00pm through 8:00pm

Changes in the hair and nail department:  Yve Marie Antista is no longer with us.  After valued feedback from you on services, we have decided that we are not a perfect fit for each other.  I am very happy to confirm that Connie, a client and manicurist at a top Beverly Hills hotel, will be working with us part time -  especially evenings.  I wish she could come on full time, but has her Beverly Hills commitments. LA DI DA!!!

Yoga - STRIKE A POSE!!!!  YOGA CAN BE BOOKED ONLINE… starting next week!   When you go to the Queen Bee website to book yoga, there will be a link to a website where you can book, pay, cancel, etc!    I believe the girls may have to put classes up $1 because we have to be able to pay for the added online services. They are still some of the most reasonable prices in town for the classes you get.  If you think about it, 4 to 6 people in a class is more like a private session, and I think that is where Ally’s classes stand out from the rest.  Plus she’s British, so that in itself should make her worth it - oh wait, she’s from Northern England…………  I take it all back!

We have added more classes AND have a new teacher “Liat” who taught with Ally in Australia.  We’ll put her bio up soon.  Make sure you email questions to the girls at “yoga@queenbeewaxing.com“

Barbecued Bits!

I know several of you are rolling your eyes at me (and I know who you are!!!).  I’m sure some people will think “Golly gosh, here’s the next big thing people are getting their knickers in a twist about.” Except guys, this time it is real.  The evidence is out there.  The evidence is on the skin of people like me, who wanted that perfect “base” before I went away somewhere smashing and warm.  And the one cancerous mole I’ve had removed waaaaay way back in my early 20s to the one I have to have removed in the next few weeks.  When doctors dig these little suckers out, they leave a scar that looks like the 7 dwarves went digging for gold!  I kid you not.  I’ll stop right there - I believe I have preached enough.

So having said this, after a year or two of research about spray tanning, we decided to invest in an amazing spray tan machine.  The formula I believe is the best one out there.  We will post tons of information on the website about it this week, but I can confirm that the formula and machine we are using is the same as the top salons out there, and we are going to be charging half as much as some.  We have 3 trained technicians who will do an amazing job at dousing your derriere and ensuring you have an even glow, with no sticky wickets!

Speaking of networking.  As you all know, I am a massive supporter of female entrepreneurs.  If you have a function coming up and you want to let me know about it, just shoot me an email.  As well as the Queen Bee networking site, I’ll put a notice board up at the shop, so you can pin some things up there.  I was contacted by a long term client a while ago who is going to use the Queen Bee garden for a function on August 8th called “The Real Freshman Orientation” for our bebes going into their first freshman year.  QB clients are receiving 25% off of a Contact Karolina at karolinasaloun@yahoo.com if you would like to see a flyer about the event.
